Gridfinity for IKEA Malm Drawers
This page sizes a Gridfinity planner and split baseplate to an IKEA Malm chest drawer. The IKEA MALM chest of 4 drawers in the 80x100 cm size fits a 17 by 10 Gridfinity layout, with a small amount of space around it.

A 17 by 10 Gridfinity grid fits
The 72 by 43 cm inside size listed by IKEA holds a 17 by 10 grid. Gridfinity uses a 42 mm grid, so the finished grid measures 714 by 420 mm.
| Drawer | Inside size | Grid | Spare |
|---|---|---|---|
| IKEA MALM chest of 4 drawers, 80x100 cm | 720 by 430 mm | 17 by 10, 714 by 420 mm | About 6 mm wide and 10 mm deep |
Open the sized planner to start with those drawer dimensions and that grid. You can drag bins onto the grid, stack layers, color-code bins by category, and get a print list.
Bins are generated in your browser and export as STL, STEP or 3MF. The tool is free and needs no account. For a first-time visitor, the empty starting layout is resized for the Malm drawer. If you already have layouts, they stay in place.
Plan the back rows for things you use less
Put the things you reach for least in the back rows. The drawer does not open fully, so those rows are harder to reach even though the full grid fits inside.
IKEA lists a drawer pull-out of 27 cm for this 43 cm deep drawer. That leaves the back 16 cm inside the chest when the drawer is open.
Measure your drawer before printing
Measure the inside width, depth, and height of your own drawer before you print. IKEA's inside sizes are rounded to the centimeter, and the spare space around this grid is small.
Other Malm chests have different drawer sizes. Check the inside size on the IKEA product page for your exact chest, then use your own measurements in the planner and baseplate generator.
Make a padded baseplate that fits your printer
The sized baseplate adds 3 mm of padding on each side and 5 mm at the front and back. Use the padding anchor to move the bins toward the back, front, either side, or center. This lets the spare space sit in one strip instead of being spread around the grid.
The generator automatically splits the plate into pieces that fit the print bed size set in the tool. With a 256 mm print bed, this Malm baseplate splits into 6 pieces and takes 6 build-plate loads.
Size bin heights from the inside height
Measure the drawer's inside height to find the tallest bin that fits. For a plain baseplate, subtract about 5 mm from that measurement, then divide the result by 7. Gridfinity height units are 7 mm.
Magnet holes in the baseplate raise the bins by about 2.5 mm. That extra height can cost one height unit. The drawer calculator does the plain-baseplate calculation for you.
Continue with the right tool
Use the drawer sizes hub to find other named drawer sizes. Open the bin generator when you are ready to make printable bins, or use the baseplate generator for another measured drawer.
