Gridfinity for IKEA Kallax Drawers
This page sizes a Gridfinity planner and split baseplate to an IKEA Kallax insert drawer. Start with the smallest measured drawer size, then confirm your own measurements before printing.

What fits in a Kallax insert drawer
A 6 by 7 Gridfinity grid fits the measured drawer space. Gridfinity uses a 42 mm grid, so the finished grid area is 252 by 294 mm.
| Drawer | Inside size | Grid | Spare |
|---|---|---|---|
| IKEA Kallax insert drawer | About 273 to 275 mm wide by 304 to 307 mm deep | 6 by 7, measuring 252 by 294 mm | About 21 to 23 mm wide and 10 to 13 mm deep |
The sized planner uses 273 by 304 mm, the smallest measured size. The grid has to fit the tightest drawer, so this is the safer starting point.
The planner is free and works in your browser with no account. Drag bins onto the grid, stack layers, color-code bins by category, and get a print list. You can generate bins in the browser and export them as STL, STEP or 3MF.
If this is your first visit and the starting layout is empty, the link sizes that layout instead of adding a second one. If you already have layouts, it keeps them.
Measure your drawer before printing
Measure your own drawer before printing because drawers vary and IKEA publishes no inside size for this insert. IKEA lists the outside of the KALLAX insert with 2 drawers as 33 by 33 cm and 37 cm deep, but it does not list the inside drawer size.
Measured Kallax insert drawers run about 273 to 275 mm wide and 304 to 307 mm deep inside. A few millimeters matter when a baseplate needs to slide into the drawer without binding.
Use 6 units wide, not 6.5. Half-grid mode would need exactly 273 mm for 6.5 units, leaving no clearance in the narrowest measured drawers. Six units gives about 21 to 23 mm of spare width.
Make a baseplate for the drawer
The sized baseplate adds 10.5 mm of padding on each side and 5 mm at the front and back. This centers the 252 by 294 mm grid within the 273 by 304 mm starting size.
Use the padding anchor to move the bins toward the back, front, either side, or center. This lets you collect the spare space into one useful strip instead of dividing it around the grid.
The generator automatically splits the baseplate into pieces that fit the print bed size set in the tool. With a 256 mm print bed, the Kallax plate splits into 6 pieces and prints in 3 build plate loads.
Choose bin heights that clear the drawer
Measure the inside height before choosing your tallest bin. For a plain baseplate, subtract about 5 mm from the drawer's inside height, then divide the result by Gridfinity's 7 mm height unit.
Magnet holes in the baseplate raise bins by about 2.5 mm. That extra height can cost one full height unit, so include it when checking clearance. The drawer calculator does the plain-baseplate calculation for you.
Plan the rest of your storage
Browse the drawer sizes hub for other named drawer layouts, or use the Gridfinity bin generator to create bins for this one.
For other IKEA storage, see the guides for Alex drawers, Malm drawers, and Helmer drawers. Each drawer should still be measured before you print.
